Psychoherapy, Psychological Counseling & Coaching

for Individuals

I am an emotionally focused therapist, counselor, and coach. I will accompany you in exploring all aspects of your experiences: stressors, thoughts, feelings, and body sensations. Together we will discover how emotions are born in your body, how they communicate with you and how they motivate your thoughts and behavior. You will learn how to handle your feelings and become more balanced and self-regulated. With my support, you will find the meaning in your stories, become better connected to yourself and those close to you, integrate lessons from the past, and move forward into the future of your choice.

While some of my patients are looking for short-term solutions, others may be interested in long-term support. I tailor my sessions to meet your specific needs and expectations. Please keep reading to determine which format works best for you.

Psychotherapy

Long-term

Anna Sizorina Psychologist Hamburg - Psychotherapy

The goal of psychotherapy is to treat mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and PTSD. Psychotherapy is a long-term process (6-48 months) that explores how your earlier experiences influence your understanding of yourself and your emotional and behavioral reactions now.

In Anna’s safe space you will be able to share troubling thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences that cause you suffering. I will help you to organize your thoughts, give them meaning, and find better alternatives for coping.

In Germany, psychotherapy is used to treat persistent mental conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and PTSD, as diagnosed according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). Therapy may be paid for by public medical insurance (gesetzliche Krankenkasse) if it is provided by an accredited psychotherapist. I am an “out-of-network provider,” and my services are not covered by public medical insurance.

Psychological Counseling

Mid-term

Anna Sizorina Psychologist Hamburg Individual Counseling

The goal of counseling is to help you cope with problems and emotional distress in your daily life and to improve your mental health, resiliency, and well-being. Counseling intervention can prevent further emotional suffering and mental illness. Counseling is often limited in time and requires 8-12 sessions.

In Anna’s safe space you will learn to manage your emotions, body, and behaviors in order to reconnect to yourself and regain your emotional balance. Though counseling intervention often prevents further suffering and even mental illness, counseling in Germany is not covered by public medical insurance (gesetzliche Krankenkasse).

Coaching

Short-term

Anna Sizorina Psychologist Hamburg - Individual Coaching

Coaching is a short-term intervention for understanding and releasing emotional blockages that hinder your moving forward and reaching your goals. Coaching is a private matter, and though it often prevents potential health issues, it is not covered by public medical insurance (gesetzliche Krankenkasse) in Germany.

All services for individuals are available online.

Please note that my practice is based in Germany. While in some other countries online psychotherapy has been well-established for many years, German law does not always recognize online sessions aimed at treating mental conditions to be true psychotherapy. At the moment, psychotherapy can only take place online after an initial face-to-face diagnosis. For these reasons, I refer to all my online services as online counseling or psychotherapeutic counseling.

Since 2020 I offer both individual and couples counseling online.

Sessions take place in the form of a video call. We usually use both sound and video to create the atmosphere of face-to-face conversation. I can then hear your voice and intonation and see your face and non-verbal cues. It allows me to use the same tools I use for a face-to-face counseling session.

…struggling with:

Fear is one of the basic emotions; it is a vital response to physical and emotional threats. And like all the basic emotions, it is inborn, always ready to influence your behavior and well-being. As a reaction to actual danger, fear can be lifesaving. However, when we are stuck in this emotional experience and see the world only through the lens of anxiety or panic, we are no longer mentally flexible, and our well-being may be at risk.

Do you experience fear? Do you feel that anxiety restricts your existence and well-being? Do you feel that sometimes you freeze up or feel ungrounded? Are you willing to understand your reactions and develop positive coping strategies to manage this state?

Depression can be both a mental disorder and a symptom. Globally, it is estimated that 5% of adults suffer from it. Depression is characterized by sadness, low mood, feelings of isolation, loneliness, disconnection, hopelessness, and/or lack of motivation or energy to perform your daily tasks or achieve your goals. It is not only rooted in the body, but can result from an interplay of social, psychological, and biological factors.

Are you willing to explore your resources and develop positive coping strategies for this condition?

Make an appointment.

Stress is a normal part of life. We experience stress when a perceived environmental challenge exceeds our perceived personal abilities and capacities to deal with it. This situation triggers our body and mind to focus on physical survival. Stress initiates a bio-behavioral reaction and profoundly affects the immune system. Prolonged stress reactions are dangerous not only for our minds but also for our bodies.

Situations that may lead to prolonged stress reactions:
• Moving into a new country/culture
• Problems at work
• New school
• Intercultural marriage
• Loss of relatives
• Loss of homeland

Are you experiencing prolonged stress? Are you trying to adjust to new circumstances?

Make an appointment.

In many cases, psychological trauma develops after a very stressful situation or when one perceives helplessness and hopelessness. Having experienced acute stress, a person can get stuck in a mental version of the traumatic situation, revisiting the place, re-experiencing the event, feeling agitated, and avoiding the conditions associated with the trauma, such as specific noises, music, smells, etc.

In Anna’s safe space, you can leave your past in the past. This does not mean forgetting—it means refocusing, finding meaning, taking the lessons learned, and moving forward while storing the rest in the archive of your life.

Is it difficult to cope with the usual challenges of everyday life, work, and relationships? Do you feel you are losing control? Are you willing to store your past in the past?

Make an appointment.

Loss and grieving
Grieving is a normal process in which you try to cope with a loss you have experienced. Loss is especially difficult when you are far from home, where you may fail to attend important family ceremonies and celebrations. Loss can be traumatizing and throw you out of balance. Loss, grieving, and making sense of loss require time and space. Make an appointment.

Sadness
Sadness is a normal feeling associated with loss. It is okay to feel sad when you lose something or somebody…but when you feel stuck in sadness and cannot move on and experience other positive emotions, and before your sadness becomes a more serious illness…make an appointment.

…or looking to achieve:

Self-regulation has roots in your childhood. It is the ability to manage your behavior, emotions, and thoughts in the pursuit of long-term goals. Self-regulation is grounded in self-awareness and is supported by the ability to modulate emotional states and express emotions. In most cases, we notice that self-regulation is impaired when we fail to manage disruptive impulses and fall into negative affectivity. In crisis or during a difficult phase/transition in your life, you might feel flooded with emotions; you might feel you cannot control yourself. Are you willing to regain your balance?

Make an appointment.

Balance is a state where you are in flow; you feel connected to yourself and the world around you. Your attention is broad: you see all gifts and challenges in your life, and you can act creatively, using your full potential to resolve your problems and enjoy your victories.
Happiness may mean different things to different people: for some, it is a feeling; for others, it is a state. Happiness is grounded in experience, the feeling of connection to self and others, the experience of being active and having agency, the freedom to choose actively.

Are you willing to regain your balance and find your way to happiness?

Make an appointment.

Session options and fees

If you’d like to use your insurance for psychotherapy, please note that I am an “out-of-network provider.” This means that you would pay my full fee at the time of our session and upon request. In Germany my services are not covered by public health insurance (gesetzliche Krankenkasse) but may be partially covered by private insurance. Please check in advance. According to German regulations, couples’ conflicts are not a disease, so it is not a part of a health insurance plan.

Anna Sizorina Psychology Hamburg Testimonial 1

I approached Anna to learn to deal with sometimes overbearing personalities in the extended family without losing my own voice and values. Anna has expertise in cross cultural psychology, and she is a relatable expat. Both of which have immeasurable value to me in understanding the influence of inherent cultural background and the true meaning of integration.

Sina, of Asian heritage, married to a German and living in Germany - Individual Counseling
