Online Counseling
Making meaning in Anna’s safe place virtually
Please note that my practice is based in Germany. While in some other countries online psychotherapy has been well-established for many years, German law does not always recognize online sessions aimed at treating mental conditions to be true psychotherapy. At the moment, psychotherapy can only take place online after an initial face-to-face diagnosis. For these reasons, I refer to all my online services as online counseling or psychotherapeutic counseling.
Since 2020 I offer both individual and couples counseling online.
Sessions take place in the form of a video call. We usually use both sound and video to create the atmosphere of face-to-face conversation. I can then hear your voice and intonation and see your face and non-verbal cues. It allows me to use the same tools I use for a face-to-face counseling session.
What does working with me look like?
To help you decide whether an online session is a good fit for you, I offer a 30-minute “sample” session. This session will help you get to know me, to ask me questions, and to get an idea of how online sessions work.
For the future, we can choose between 60 and 90-minute duration. In the beginning, I usually recommend weekly sessions; later on, we might switch to bi-monthly or monthly sessions.
Please read what some of my clients think about our work online.

How working online may feel to you:
- It may be comforting to be in your own space.
You may speak more openly. - You save time and transportation costs to the office and back.
- You may join from any place comfortable for you.
- Your children may play safely in another room.
- For couples in distress, it may feel safer to join from two separate virtual rooms at the beginning.
- For couples physically far away from each other, it is possible to meet in a safe space.
- You may bring your pet into the session.
- If you are traveling, there is no need to skip an appointment.

Online counseling tips:
- Check your sound; use headphones or earbuds if your speakers are inadequate or for privacy purposes if you connect from a public place.
- Put a light source in front of you and slightly off to the side so that you are not blinded but I can still see your face.
- Use WiFi if possible, to ensure a more reliable connection.
- Close other apps on your device to ensure it runs smoothly.
Kids who occasionally show up in sessions are a part of your life; this connection is a key to your well-being and health. Please be aware that it may be challenging to focus on the session when children are around.

Limits of online counseling
Online counseling cannot offer adequate support in all cases. Some problems, such as acute psychological crises, serious mental illness, or disorders that require medication, require in-person and long-term contact. In these cases, please contact a psychotherapist or emergency services in your area. You can use the free 30-minutes appointment to discuss your concerns.

Anna’s Services
I am an emotionally focused therapist, and counselor. With my support, you will learn how to handle your feelings, become better connected to yourself, you will find the meaning in your stories, integrate lessons from the past, and move forward into the future of your choice.
I use Emotionally Focused Therapy developed by Dr. Sue Johnson. I guide couples to make sense of their emotional interactions, and to experience how emotional connection and a felt sense of security soothes their bodies and hearts and allows them to find a safe haven in each other’s arms.
The goal of my workshops is to support mental health. According to the World Health Organization, mental health is not only the absence of disease; it is “a state of well-being in which every individual realizes their potential, [and] can cope with the normal stresses of life…”

Working with Anna was a very useful experience. I managed to resolve many issues and become energized to undertake new endeavors. 🙂 I managed to cast a new glance over my life (look at my like from another point/ angle), start trusting myself again and regain confidence. Working with Anna has been amazing and so important for us. The online sessions feel almost like a date, which we hadn’t had for a long time due to corona, small children, and busy jobs. We meet with Anna over Zoom from our living room and it is very comfortable and natural. It feels good to find the joy in our relationship and feel light around each other again. We are learning to work better as a team and to embrace each others’ differences, and we and are eager to keep going as its making our lives a whole lot easier!
